Facing south with unrestricted and amazing views of the Manifold Valley, the Old Byre is a superb cottage ideal for couples wanting comfort, peace and quiet. It’s been converted to the highest standards from a barn dating back to the 18th Century and combines understated luxury with beamed ceilings and many original features. It’s one of the cosiest, most romantic cottages in the Peak District.
The front door leads to a graveled courtyard with garden furniture and a BBQ. There’s a small grassy paddock immediately in front of the cottage where guests can relax. An EV charger has been installed behind the building in the designated parking area.

The Old Byre
Living space
Downstairs the cottage has a beamed ceiling with an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. In addition to a large radiator it has a wood burning stove (biomass) making this cottage extremely cosy and warm.
Bedroom and bathrooms
A flight of open tread stairs leads to a galleried landing, off of which is a lovely double bedroom with “views to die for” (the opinion of one of our visitors). Also off the landing is a modern deluxe bathroom with bath/overbath shower, WC and heated towel rail.
Modern deluxe kitchen
The kitchen has granite worktops, integrated appliances and terracotta floor tiles. The cottage is equipped with a full range of cooking and dining ware.
Outdoor furnished patio
The front door leads to a sunny courtyard with garden furniture, picnic table and BBQ. There’s a small grassy paddock directly opposite the front door where guests can relax.
Scandinavian Hot Tub
If you really want to lie back and relax then let the stresses and strains melt away in our hot tub. It’s not the Jacuzzi type (no bubbles or flashing lights!) and available as an extra. It’s made in Scandinavia and is wood fired (biomass). It’s amazingly eco-friendly compared to regular hot tubs and there’s space for 6 to 8 people. There are no chemicals so it’s ‘one use only’. For hygiene reasons, it needs to be emptied, cleaned, refilled and heated before it’s next use. This takes time, so if you would like to use it please let us know 24 hours in advance.
The hot tub is located in an elevated position with truly spectacular views. Stargazing on a clear night is heavenly!
There is a charge of £80 for a private day booking. The price includes: extra bath towels, robes and plastic drinking glasses.
EV Charger
The EV charger is at the rear of the building in the designated parking area.
The charger works with an RFID card and operates on a normal domestic tarriff – we pass onto you what the electricity company charge us. Please ask for the RFID card when you arrive.
